Compression Garment

  • Compression Vest will be worn for 2-3 weeks post-op.
  • Compression Tank will be worn from 3 weeks post-op until 12 weeks post-op.

Compression Garment - Free Nipple Graft

  • Immediately following surgery, you will be put in a compression vest with bandages underneath. This is essentially a cast and should not be removed for the first 10 days.
  • Compression Vest will be worn until 3 weeks post-op.
  • Compression Tank will be worn from 3 weeks post-op until 12 weeks post-op.

Pre-op Bag

  • You will receive a Pre-op bag at your pre-op appointment
  • Bag contents include: Scar-less, Neosporin, alcohol pads, Arnica Montana, Hydrocortisone Cream, tape, liquid adhesive, lanyard, icepack, and spot bandages.

Eating before surgery - General Anesthesia

  • Avoid eating 10 hours prior to surgery
  • Avoid all fluids, including water, 10 hours prior to surgery

Eating Prior to Surgery - Local Anesthesia

  • Light breaskfast recommended 2 hours prior to arrival for surgery.
  • Fluids are ok prior to surgery.

Required Labs - Local Anesthesia

  • No labs required for local anesthesia procedures.

Required Labs - General Anesthesia

  • Bloodwork required prior to surgery. This must be completed within 30 days of surgery date.
Medical consultation for clearance and EKG testing.

Medical Clearance - General Anesthesia

  • Medical Clearance will be required prior to surgery. This can be done with your PCP or at any urgent care.
  • EKG will be required prior to surgery. This should be completed within 30 days of surgery date.\

Overnight Stay - General Anesthesia

  • For general anesthesia, you will be required to stay overnight with a registered nurse.
  • We recommend “Laguna Village Retreat”. We can reserve this for you upon request.

Prescriptions - General Anesthesia

  • Please notify Cruise Plastic Surgery which pharmacy you would like your medications sent to.
  • Medications Prescribed: antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, pain medication, sleep aid, anti-nausea medication.
  • Celebrex (anti-inflammatory) will be taken 2 hours prior to surgery arrival.

  • We call in all medications and have them ready for you in our office upon your surgery arrival.
  • Medications Prescribed: antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, pain medication, and sleep aid.

Showering after surgery

  • You are cleared to shower 24 hours after surgery.
  • You may clip your drains to the lanyard provided in your pre-op bag while showering.

Showering after surgery - Free Nipple Graft

  • The vest should not be removed for the first 10 days following surgery.
  • We recommend sponge bath for the first 10 days following surgery, avoiding getting your compression saturated.

Submerging and saunas after surgery

  • Avoid submerging the surgical area for the first 6 weeks. This means pools, hot-tubs, lakes, oceans, etc.
  • Avoid saunas until 6 weeks post-op.

Swimming after surgery

  • You will be cleared to resume swimming at 6 weeks post-op.

Avoiding Sun Exposure

  • Avoid sun-exposure 2 weeks prior to surgery.
Avoid alcohol and coffee before surgery advice.

Things to avoid

  • No caffiene 5 days prior, and 5 days after surgery.
  • No alcohol 1 week prior, and 1 week after.
  • No smoking 2 weeks prior to surgery, and 2 weeks after surgery.
  • Avoid NSAIDS (Ibuprofen, Aspirin, Advil, Motrin, etc.)
  • Avoid all blood thinners.

Working out after surgery

  • No workout restrictions immediately prior to surgery.
  • Light walking is ok after surgery.
  • Limit range of motion 1 week after surgery.
  • Avoid upper body lifting or breaking a sweat for 6 weeks post-op.

Driving after surgery

  • You are cleared to drive 24 hours after surgery as long as you are not on pain medication.
  • If you take pain medication, you will need someone to drive you.

Returning to work

  • You may return to light duty work 48 hours after surgery.
  • For jobs that require heavy lifting, we can write you a doctors note until cleared for upper body lifting.
